Bill Cavanaugh (right) and Chris Jaffe, at the 162nd meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in San Diego. Bill introduced Chris during the plenary session when Chis was presented with the Sabine Medal for his innovative acoustical solutions in performance hall design and for architectural acoustics education. Chris developed lightweight fiberglass "clouds" to be used above a platform area to enhance the sound for choral and instrumental performances. He founded Jaffe Acoustics Inc., a prominent acoustical consulting firm in Norwalk CT, and he developed a new master's interdisciplinary program in Architectural Acoustics at the RPI School of Architecture in Troy, NY (his alma mater).

Bill Cavanaugh and Dr. Ning Xiang talk at the December meeting of ASA Greater Boston Chapter. Ning Xiang is chair of the Graduate Program in Architectural Acoustics at RPI. He was invited by the chapter to present his recent research in the acoustics of coupled rooms. This has applications in auditorium design for understanding the flow of sound between the stagehouse and audience area, or between the auditorium and reverberation chambers.
