STOCKBRIDGE THEATER
The Pinkerton Academy Arts and Humanities Center is organized
around the requirements of the four departments it
houses: Drama, Music, Art, and English. At its core is the
892-seat Stockbridge Theater, with its 3,300 ft2 stage, surrounded
by support spaces such as set and costume shops, storage, dressing
rooms, green room, black box theatre, ticket offi ce and public
toilets. The auditorium is outfi tted with a full fl y loft, orchestra pit
filler, stage sound refl ector shell, and professional sound and light
systems.
The design of the audience chamber of the Stockbridge Theater
includes overhead gypsum refl ector panels, configured to provide
appropriate distribution of sound from the stage to the seating area,
and spaced to make use of the upper air volume above the reflectors.
Side wall areas near the stage proscenium have significant surface
articulation to provide sound diffusion. Smaller scale wood slats
are used at the lower wall areas near the stage, and large pyramidal
acoustical diffusers, constructed of veneer plywood, are located at
the upper wall area. |
