Northeastern University Visitor Center

  • Project: Northeastern University Visitor Center
  • Location: Boston, MA
  • Architect: William Rawn Associates
  • Completion: 2012
  • Filters: Audiovisual

The newly-opened visitor center for the admissions office of Northeastern University gives the school a new way to share the Northeastern student experience with prospective applicants.  Three large multi-touch activated displays host rich, interactive content that allows self-directed exploration of the Northeastern University experience including its academic departments, Boston campus life, and its renowned international co-op program.  An elegant and flexible 110-seat theater is used to make regular presentations prior to the campus walking tour, and features a 5-foot by 16-foot array of Christie MicroTiles and a full surround sound system.

The new visitor center was carved out of an existing building in the heart of the Northeastern campus.  The architectural and technology designs were heavily influenced by the existing conditions.  Depth for the rear projection zone of the interactive displays was extremely tight, making the margin for error very small in for the implementation of a blended projected image.  CTA provided audiovisual design services for the project and with teamwork, careful component and software selection, and a dedicated installation team; the projection zones were able to achieve extremely high-quality seamless images in a very constrained space.
