Greg Tocci has developed an advanced technique for modeling construction noise. It is labor intensive, but it allows us to predict sound level statistics such as L-10, L-50 and Leq for a complex construction site with many different types of construction machines. This is done by deconstructing the statistical sound levels for each machine type so they can be combined mathematically to calculate a total statistical level. It is based on a spreadsheet so large we had to buy a faster computer to run it. This technique was used to model construction noise for portions of the Big Dig.
