Cavanaugh Tocci worked closely with the architect to review interior acoustics in courtrooms and in public ciruclation areas, inlcuding the entry atrium, to provide an acoustical environment with superior speech clarity and appropriate reverberation levels. Use of acoustical plaster at clerestories in upper-floor courtrooms controls unwanted sound reflections and maintains an acoustically intimate environment, despite visually large spaces. Sound-absorbing treatment in the entry atrium dovetails with the intended design aesthetic, yet maintains an acceptable reverberation time such that communication at security checkpoints may be easily maintained.
CTA reviewed sound from mechanical systems serving occupied spaces to ensure that HVAC fan and airflow noise is not noticeable in courtrooms and supporting offices. CTA also provided design services for video systems, which include projectors and screens for the display of evidence/exhibits, and the infrastructure to support future expansion.
